Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about volunteering with Health Equity Hubs.

Do I need healthcare experience to volunteer?

No! While healthcare experience is helpful for some roles, it is not required. We provide comprehensive training and support. What matters most is a passion for helping others and commitment to health equity.

Can I volunteer remotely?

Yes, some roles (like administrative support, outreach coordination, and translation) can be done remotely. However, many positions require in-person presence at library hubs or community events.

What is the time commitment?

It varies by role. Some positions require 4-8 hours per week, others are flexible or event-based. We work with your schedule to find a commitment that fits your life.

Is there a minimum commitment period?

Most roles ask for a 3-6 month minimum commitment to ensure continuity for the community members we serve. Event-based roles like Health Access Day are just one day per year.

Will I receive training?

Yes! All volunteers receive comprehensive training specific to their role. Training covers health navigation basics, community resources, confidentiality, and cultural competency. Ongoing support is always available.

Can I volunteer if I have a full-time job?

Absolutely! Many of our volunteers work full-time. We offer evening and weekend shifts at library hubs, and some roles have flexible scheduling. We work with your availability.

Do I need to speak Spanish?

Spanish language skills are highly valued, especially for translation/interpretation roles, but they are not required for most positions. We serve both English and Spanish-speaking communities.

Can volunteering lead to employment opportunities?

As we expand, volunteers may have opportunities to transition into paid roles. Volunteering is an excellent way to gain experience and demonstrate your commitment to our mission. However, we are a new organization and have not yet offered employment opportunities.
